Réseau Ligniculture Quebec, with the support of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and an organizing committee, is preparing a forum that will examine key issues for concentrated short-rotation woody crops (SRWC) 1 of willows and hybrid poplars for energy production, namely R&D, implementation, economic feasibility, and deployment. This event will take place in Wendake, located in the vicinity of Quebec City, on March 14 and 15, 2012. More than 100 participants are expected, mainly from the Quebec forestry and agricultural sectors. Fifteen speakers from Quebec and elsewhere in Canada will share their knowledge. It will be the opportunity for diverse stakeholders to acquire relevant knowledge and to establish links with other participants.
The organizing committee includes representatives of Réseau Ligniculture Quebec, NRCan, MRNF (Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife), Institut de recherche en biologie végétale (IRBV), Union des producteurs agricoles du Québec (UPA), CEROM, a research centre on grains, Biopterre, a bioproducts development centre, and Agrinova, an agricultural research and innovation centre.
Forum objectives
- To present information on concentrated SRWC, its yield potential, and its special culture
- To provide an overview of R&D work carried out in Canada on concentrated SRWC
- To present application and demonstration projects of concentrated SRWC in Quebec and discuss economic feasibility aspects
- To increase the interest of stakeholders in the next-generation biofuel production thread, including cellulosic ethanol generated from cultivated woody biomass
- To present the emerging biorefining thread, which allows the simultaneous production of fuel and high value-added green chemistry products
- To present institutional and industrial heating that uses residual biomass or biomass produced from sustainable cultures
- To present potential markets
- To promote networking
Target audiences
- Forestry and agricultural planners, managers and advisors from the municipal, public and private sectors
- Forestry and agricultural industry representatives
- Biofuel producers and promoters of biorefining projects
- Scientific community
- Any person interested in short-rotation woody crops
Presentation themes
- A special culture
- Current R&D initiatives
- Implementation, economic feasibility and deployment
By navigating through this Website, you will find information on the Forum, including its location, detailed program, and registration process.
1Note that concentrated SRWC is also known as "short-rotation intensive culture (SRIC) biomass crops planted at high densities », « short-rotation coppices" and "short-rotation cropping".
Please note that a simultaneous translation service will be provided for both official languages.
